On Sabbatical :)

As frequently as I find Cynic-inspired posts, I thought I might start posting some under "Cynic Post 'o The Day." Today's comes from The Art of Manliness, which has become one of my favorite blogs. This article discusses the life of a dignified hobo -- very much distinguished from the "bum" that we perceive as unsavory. Many of the Cynics rejected worldly goods and wealth, and I think they'd approve of this message.

I don't post much about Cynic philosophy, but it deserves more attention, particulary in this age of financial struggles. This article from Penelope's Trunk is a wonderful, if inadvertant, introduction to the Cynic philosophy. Diogenes took the sentiments therein a bit ... further* ... but the sentiment is certainly in the spirit of he and other classical Cynics.
* More on that later...

I had a chance to ride the Madsen cargo bike we gave away at Boise Bike Week this summer. It was surprisingly nimble for its size. They're giving away a free bike every month, if you wanna get in on the drawing, click here: MADSEN Cargo Bikes.

An exerpt from a great article:
Simply demanding apologies left, right and centre is not only pompous, it is pointless. Apologies, to me, are very personal things that happen between individuals; to be meaningful they must surely be instinctive, heartfelt and – above all – voluntary. Not forced out of people by public demand. If someone is ‘big enough’ to take responsibility and apologise with real sincerity, we tend to respect them. If they fail to apologise for something that they, personally, have done wrong, we tend to think less of them. That’s it. They either do it or they don’t. End of story. It may well be the case that our collective sense of honour and responsibility has evaporated away in the last 50 years or so, but attempting to force parroted apologies from people who aren’t truly disposed to utter them is simply a waste of time.
