Idea: Local Job Exchange Program

(Just an idea. Maybe something like it exists already, but I've never heard of it.)

The Local Job Exchange Program (LJEP) is where individuals can experience another person's job for a day or two. It's a cooperative program between participating companies, the "donating" company agrees to pay their employee their regular wage while working for a day or two at another participating company; the "receiving" company agrees to allow a person from the other company to work for them for a day or two. It's all done in the spirit of cooperation and mutual understanding, and participating companies can make stipulations about the exchange as needed. Companies need not swap employees directly between one another -- as part of the program, an exchange day is treated as a "credit" which may be used for an exchange with any participating company/employee, at any agreed-upon time.

I was disappointed with Mazzah's Turkish coffee. Too weak, not sweet enuf.

Why the hell does Hulu have "like ad" and "dislike ad" buttons on advertisments? Who chooses "like ad"?

Things I've learned about dorky kick scooters.

As previously mentioned, I bought a kick scooter. It's like the kids' version, but bigger, and stronger, for us heavier kids. After putting about 10 miles on the thing in the past week, here's what I know:

  1. Dork factor: HIGH. Probably very slightly less dorky than in-line skates. Unless you're around 6-year old kids, in which case;
  2. Cool factor: HIGH (if there are 6-year olds around).
  3. Skill level: LOW, though higher than you might think. The balance is kinda tricky at first, but it seems easier to pick up than I recall skateboards being. I really thought it'd be easier to switch kicking/standing legs, but it's not. Which leads me to...
  4. Stationary leg: SORE. It's not the kicking, it's the standing on one leg for a long time. And bumpy sidewalks + solid acrylic wheels (i.e. no shock absorption) means my 30-something year-old knee, which has always suffered from occasional pain, hurts.
  5. Speed: MEDIUM. As tested, it's exactly half-way between walking and cycling. I'd call it "walking improved" except for it's obvious lack of usefulness on grass and gravel.
  6. Fun factor: THROUGH THE ROOF. Honestly, I haven't had more fun with $89 in a long time. Not only do I get to spend some awesome time with my son -- the thing is just damn fun. I am probably going to buy one for my girlfriend. I don't know if she'll ride it. I don't care -- I'll just have a backup. :)
